Honestly I think Sun and Moon are the best games they've ever done. You're gonna have to adjust to dark, steel and fairy types being a thing, but it has a system where, once you've caught or defeated a certain pokemon, the game will tell you which of your moves are super effetive/not very effective against it.

There's also less than 300 pokemon to be found in the wild, which makes me a little sad but should make it a lot more approachable with all the new ones (since there's something like 800 total of the little buggers)

Whatever game you decide to start with, lemme know and I can give you a heads up on the new mechanics (stuff like weather, abilities, double battles)

+1 for sumo

toasthaste forgot to mention the best part which is where you pet your pokemon and after battles you like can clean them up or apply medicine to heal their status ailments and they become more and more affectionate toward you as you do that stuff

sun/moon definitely incorporates that feature better into the main game than x/y does, so I recommend it for that too!

neither one is "better" than the other, they have the same storylines with very minor differences.

here is an article with version exclusive pokemon, and the fact that they take place at different times isn't that big of a deal. Some events you can only do during the day/night, and if you have Moon, the game will be 12 hours ahead of your local time. If you have Sun, the game time is normal.

I have Sun, and really like it! Others have moon and really like it!

Yeah, personally I didn't like that the day/night cycle was offset in moon, but it's really easy to change your 3ds clock by 12 hours and fix that.
