I was Tau they were Blood Angels. I had
- 12 fire warrior strike team + cadre fireblade + two gun drones + tactical support turret
- 10 fire warrior breacher team + guardian drone in a devilfish
- hammerhead w/ ion cannon
- piranha w/ fusion blaster and 2 seeker missiles
- 6 stealth suits 2 w/ fusion blasters and target locks and 4 with burst cannons
- 3 crisis suits w/ two plasma rifles each with a buffmander w/ a flamer and stim injector and 2 shield drones
- 6 pathfinders
- 2 tactical squads both with five dudes. One with two plasma guns and one with two flamers. Each was inside METAL BOXES
- 3 bikes
- two squads of I can't remember what they're called but they have angel wings and jump packs and are really good at melee and they can deep strike whenever he wants to instead of having to roll for it and they can assault after deep striking and they only scatter 1D6 after deep striking and I fucking hate them
- one of those squads had Dante in them he's kind of a big deal. He has 4 wounds, a 2+ armour save, a jetpack and he tears absolutely everything to bits in close combat
- A librarian dreadnought in a droppod
I deployed the pathfinders and strike team into a large ruin that was half way inside my deployment zone. I deployed the vehicles, including the breacher team in their transport, next to the building. Crisis suits and commander were held in reserve (I had the commander trait that they wouldn't scatter)
He deployed one rhino in each corner of the map behind some buildings with the bikes near the rhino with the plasma dudes in it (those were the ones closer to my vehicles.
I infiltrated my stealth suits far away from my main army near his rhino filled with flamers.
Then I had my first turn
First thing first my stealth suits moved up to their designated rhino and laid into it. The fusion blasters did a lot of damage and then the burst cannons finished it off by glancing it to death. The tactical squad escaped out unscathed and rallied in the direction of my suits. My stealth team tried to jetpack away and fucked it up, only moving 3", well within assault range for the tactical squad next turn.
On the side of the board my pathfinders took up residence in the first floor of the ruined building so they could provide markerlight support to everyone else. They stayed up there for the rest of the mission. My strike team took up residence in the ground floor, staying inside for cover for now.
My vehicles cautiously advanced a little, keeping close to the building I had taken up as my home base. The pathfinders miraculously managed to snap shoot two markerlights onto the surviving enemy rhino. The piranha used these to unload its two seeker missiles on it (doesn't require line of sight if fired with markerlights!) and heavily damaged it. The devilfish and hammerhead then both unloaded their smart missiles on it to finish it off (also don't need line of sight :D). Now transportless the tactical squads would have to walk, with very little cover, towards a position I was quickly fortifying.
On the enemy's first turn he tried to droppod the dreadnought directly on top of my vehicles but luckily it scattered the maximum possible distance away from me. It advanced and did an aura attack that damaged my piranha and my hammerhead and advanced towards my hammerhead.
The bikes started moving down the flank (closing in on my piranha and devilfish) while the tactical squad near them advance slowly.
The other tactical squad charged my stealth suits and locked them into a melee, killing two stealth suits and losing one marine in the first turn of it.
My piranha motors ahead to flank the dreadnought and hit it its side armour while by hammerhead backs away from it. Both unload into it with some markerlight support from my pathfinders. They blow off one of the arms but don't kill it. My fire warriors, unable to damage it with any of their weapons, sit in place so they can deploy their tactical support turret (another source of smart missiles).
My devilfish advances to intercept the bikers and takes some smart missile pot shots at the tactical squad, taking out one of them.
The other tactical squad wipes out my stealth suits, but they've been delayed long enough and are so far away from the main battle that they never end up taking part in the mission beyond this point. For that matter neither does the other tactical squad (my opponent later said he intentionally kept them away at this point onwards so he couldn't get board-wiped, which is an instant loss)
Not a good turn for me. With me having failed to hold off the dreadnought it successfully assaults my hammerhead and tears it appart with its claws, causing it to explode. The bikes round the corner to finally reach my vehicles and are able to assault my pirahna and ram it to death. All of my anti-vehicle units are now destroyed.
My commander finally arrives from deep strike, landing behind the dreadnought as his crisis team blow the shit out of it from behind, finishing it off and getting revenge for my fallen vehicle crews.
The devilfish pulls up beside the enemy bikes and unloads my breacher team on top of them. To my dismay they only manage to kill two out of three of the bikes, the last one managing to avoid point blank goddamn shotguns because of his jink save. Thankfully some of my other fire warriors can shoot from inside the building they're in and are able to finish off the last one. I now hold my base again uncontested with his two tactical squads split up on opposite sides of the board far away from each other.
My commander's squad then jetpack moves his squad into some rough terrain in the hopes that it might help hold off an assault.
So then that fucker Dante lands in with the other angel dude squad. Both of them assault my commander's squad, the difficult terrain doing nothing to hold them off. Six plasma guns, a flamer, three pulse blaster, two pulse carbines and a pulse rifle gets fired into them in a desperate attempt to overwatch. It takes out one man from dante's squad and two from the other one. My commander's squad, unsurprisingly, gets completely wiped out. Dante's unit regroups towards my breacher team, the other unit towards my strike team.
No prizes for guessing what happens this turn. I shoot things. My striker team pours out of the building so they can bring every gun to bear on the squad running at them. They do not survive the weight of 11 pulse rifles and 2 pulse carbines at close range. The pulse blasters are brought against dante. He survives with one of his squad members.
My devilfish is also still alive and I move it away to capture a tactical objective to get some victory points.
Dante splits up from his one surviving squadmate split up into two separate units. This means they can charge my breacher team separately and my breachers can only overwatch fire at one of them. The non-dante charges first and dies a shotgun-y death. Dante himself charges and then routs and wipes out the squad of 10 men and 1 drone by himself.
The other squad is not so lucky when it charges my striker team gunline. It is wiped out and my remaining fire warriors are safe.
On my turn my fire warriors remain stationary. Because of the fireblade this means they can all shoot twice. Dante dies under sheer weight of dice as each of my 11 rifles shoots him four times.
I also move the devilfish up to the enemy table edge to secure another objective and victory point.
On my opponent's last turn he tries to get his plasma tactical squad (remember those guys?) to assault and destroy my devilfish, as I have now moved it quite close to them, in order to get an objective point of his own, which he fails at. Good thing for me he didn't as we called it a game there and I won by a single victory point - 8 against 7
