I'm surprised that they couldn't get a trademark on eldar TBH

who wants to guess what they're going to call dark eldar? Will they just go with dark aeldari? aeldarki?

Games Workshop are really protective of their intellectual properties and pretty litigious. They've been renaming a bunch of armies in the game to be more trademark friendly. When they rebooted Warhammer Fantasy as Age of Sigmar they renamed most of the factions. Lizardmen became Seraphon and Orcs became Orruks etc. Only names that were already sufficiently unique to the brand (like Skaven) stayed the same.
They've renamed a few factions in 40k already as well. Imperial Guard became Astra Militarum and Space Marines became Adeptus Astartes. In the case of the 40k stuff though there wasn't an internal renaming within the storyline those were already names used by factions within the lore (the "High Gothic" language in the lore is represented by dog latin). I think this is actually true for Aeldari too - that it was already a term used in-universe.
